Advanced Certificate in
Project Management Program

As projects increase in scope and complexity, so do the skills required to manage them. For seasoned project managers involved in complex programs, Systemation's Advanced Certificate in Project Management Program gives students the proficiency to excel in more advanced project environments, equipping them to deliver desired results under extreme pressure and less-than-ideal circumstances.

Consisting of four workshops, the Advanced Certificate in Project Management Program focuses on the execution, control and closure of large-scale projects. Over the course of this 10-day program, students acquire the skills needed to keep large, complex and often simultaneous projects progressing on time and within budget. Just as important, students learn how to deal with tough personnel issues like boosting team morale and conflict resolution. The final workshop within the program brings it all together by taking students through a real-world, 30-week project scenario using a computer-based simulation.

Advanced Project Management (three days)

Time. Cost. Scope. Participants learn to keep these three dimensions in harmony across multiple projects amidst unexpected events. They practice shifting resources among projects. They also perform earned-value calculations-a sophisticated way to pinpoint whether projects will end on time or behind schedule. They also analyze project results to identify area for improvement and opportunities to redefine "best practice."

Advanced Project Leadership (two days)

This workshop teaches structured, respectful approaches for dealing with awkward or complicated people issues, boosting team morale, and motivating team members toward higher performance. Topics includes how to confront hard workers who are making critical errors, how to refocus people that deviate from priority tasks to pursue less urgent activities, and many more challenging issues.

Estimating and Risk (two days)

Estimating and risk management are two of the more difficult areas for project managers to master. Participants learn to estimate projects using a variety of top down and bottom up methods. These techniques will be invaluable in estimating projects for yearly budget cycles and for establishing initial project time and cost baselines. In addition, this workshop provides best practice methods of identifying, analyzing, and response planning to risks.

Program Management Simulation
(three days)

Project managers work in teams to shepherd a 30-week project to completion via a computer simulation. Each team faces real-life decision variables such as budget cuts, expanding scope, a competitor's surprise product launch, a team member who becomes ill, and changes in a project sponsor. As participants take risks in handling each surprise, they receive instant feedback and have the opportunity to make adjustments.
